How Relaxing Can Help To Get More Done
September 1, 2009
There is always such a focus on getting more done and being as productive as you possibly can. I find myself looking for ways to be more productive more effective. I read a wonderful post on Zen habits about enjoying yourself, and I think this is the key to getting more done. In February of this year Christine and I traveled to southern Florida on business, and while there we decided to take an additional week to relax in the Everglades. When he returned from our trip to Florida we realized one of the projects we’re working on a need to go and it didn’t fit into our life. The development cycle from this project had run us down, and when we dropped the project we had time to focus on what is really important. We would’ve never realized this having not taken some time out to relax. Here are some tips on relaxing, and when relaxing you open up the gateway to intuition.
But for those of you who have forgotten how to relax, you’re going to have a tougher time. Here’s a hint: don’t stress out about it. If you don’t know how to relax, it’s OK. Breathe. Take it slowly. One step at a time.
Some steps:
- Take 5 minutes to go outside for a walk. Breathe the fresh air.
- Give yourself more time to do things. More time means less rush.
- After work, get outside, take in nature, run around if you can.
- Play. Play like a child. Play with a child. Play when you work.
- Give yourself a day off. Sleep. Watch TV. Eat bon bons.
- At work, give yourself an hour off. Don’t try to be productive. Just have fun.
- Work with someone who is exciting. Get excited about a project.
- Take evenings off. Seriously, no working in the evenings.
- Get a massage.
- Breathe.
If you don’t feel productive, then don’t be productive just relax.
