Can blogging build my business?
October 23, 2008
If you enjoy communicating your passion and ideas on a regular basis, business blogging can be a powerful part of your marketing plan, helping you get found and converting leads into sales.
Business blogging is a great way to drive traffic to your web site. By linking to other sites and using targeted keywords and tags, your web site will shoot to the top of “organic” searches in search engines. This not only increases traffic to your site, but also helps you reduce expensive keyword advertising.
Business blogs can establish expertise, and provide a “free sample” of products or services. We teach our students that the first rule is to BE HELPFUL. If you are able to provide a new perspective or approach to something that has been causing your potential customer pain, they are more likely to buy your product. It’s that simple.
And now with the free, open-source WordPress blog software, creating a business blog has never been easier!
This month the Technology Dojo is offering Blogging for Dollars, a FREE 90-minute blog class that will show you how to blog for your business. You will learn about how to set measurable goals, establish your unique blogging voice, and embed the keywords, tags and links that will make your web site shoot to the top of search pages. The phone-in class will be held on Wednesday, October 29 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM (Pacific).

I am always amazed how blogging is sold as a catch all. IMO, most businesses have many better things to do than struggle with blogging. The results for the time put in are not worth it unless you BLOG is your business. Focus on advertising and marketing to the sites that already focus on your industry. You will save time, help the real publishers and get results from passinate readers, not someone who fell into you BLOG from Google and probably is not interested in your site, let alone business.
